Biography: Dr. Fleur Tehrani, MHD guest May 25, 2007
Professor Fleur Tehrani holds a BS degree in electrical engineering from Sharif
University of Technology (formerly known as Arya-Mehr University), Tehran, Iran,
a graduate diploma from Imperial College of Science and Technology, London, an
MS and a PhD degree in electrical engineering from University
of
London, UK. Dr. Tehrani was a university professor in the UK from 1982 to 1985
until she immigrated to the United States. She has been on the faculty of
California State University, Fullerton since 1985 where she is currently a
tenured Professor of Electrical Engineering.
Dr. Tehrani has published numerous articles in the field of biomedical
engineering. She is the inventor of metabolic rate monitors and several
respiratory assist devices including one of the most advanced respiratory
control systems in the world known as Adaptive Support Ventilation. She has
two issued US patents and several pending patent applications on her inventions.
Both of her issued patents have been commercialized successfully and are
licensed and used in practice worldwide. She has been a reviewer of many books
and scientific journals and has repeatedly served as an invited panelist for the
National Science Foundation. She is a registered Professional Engineer in the
State of California and has received two NASA fellowships and a number of awards
at the local and national levels for her research contributions. Dr. Tehrani is
a fellow of the Institute for the Advancement of Engineering, a senior member of
the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), a national life
member of Graduate Women in Science (GWIS) and a member and officer of the
Association of Professors and Scholars of Iranian Heritage (APSIH). She has been
a subject of biographical records in many of the Marquis Who’s Who publications
including Who’s Who in the World and Who’s Who of American Women. She enjoys
poetry, literature, music, and stamp collecting.
