APSIH Weekly Radio Program

The main purpose of the MHD program is to increase and update public awareness about the latest trends in different fields of social and natural sciences. The idea is to educate the public, inspire the college bound students and help in building a very positive image of the scientists and scholars of Iranian heritage. By interviewing such scholars, we would like to present good role models to our community. Having a proper role model is an essential ingredient for the success and development of any community.

In his talk Dr. Mellati will discuss his 5 decades of clinical, educational, research and administrative service in Iran  Dr. Mellati will cover the changes in disease trend and patient health care approaches in recent years.

He was born in 1936 and his family moved to Tehran when he was 6.  After completion of high school he was awarded by Shah Mohamad Reza Pahlavi as the top student of the year.  In Tehran Medical School entrance exam, he had the highest score that year.

In her talk Dr. Partownavid will start with a general introduction to the field of anesthesiology and subsequently will focus on postoperative pain management. Dr. Partownavid received her medical doctorate degree from Shiraz University of Medical Sciences. She then completed her residency in anesthesiology at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. Dr. Partownavid is currently a faculty, assistant clinical professor in anesthesiology at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center.

Dr. Hamed Khalkhali will describe what Exergy is and how Exergy Management is the future of smart energy management.  Also, he will go over the issue of current Energy & Exergy Management in higher education academia.  He will discuss how a new approach must be adopted for higher education in the area of Thermal Science in order to be adaptive.

Dr. Hamed Khalkhali was born in 1968 in Iran. He finished high school in Gorgan and entered Sharif University of Technology in 1986 in Mechanical Engineering.  After graduation and completing the mandatory military service, Dr. Khalkhali moved to the U.S. to pursue higher education.  He earned a Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering at Wright State University, OH. He then pursued his Ph.D. studies at the University of Michigan Ann Arbor in Mechanical Engineering.

Much has been said about the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico by the British Petroleum (BP). What has not been mentioned at all is the pollution that has been accumulating in the Persian Gulf since at least the 1980s, by the American oil companies, the BP itself, and the United States 5th fleet with headquarters in Bahrain. In addition, BP created another spill with a legacy that is still with us: This is the same company - under the name Anglo-Persian (later Anglo-Iranian) oil  company - that gave rise to the 1953 coup that overthrew the democratically-elected government of Iran's national hero, Dr. Mohammad Mosaddegh. These issues will be discussed.
