On Sunday April 22, 2007, The
Association of Professors and Scholars of Iranian Heritage held its
Tenth Annual Recognition Ceremony honoring academic achievements by students of
Iranian Heritage who graduated in the 2006/2007 academic year.
The keynote speech was given by
Dr.
Iraj Ershaghi, Omar
B. Milligan Professor and Director of Petroleum Engineering Program at the
Viterbi School of Engineering at University of Southern California. Dr. Reza Abbaschian, Dean of
Bourns College of Engineering, William R. Johnson, Jr. Family Professor and
Distinguished Professor of Mechanical Engineering at the University of
California Riverside
was this
year's "Distinguished
Achievements in Academic Services" awardee. Dr. Kamran Abedini,
Professor of Industrial and
Manufacturing Engineering at California State Polytechnic University in Pomona
was this year's recipient of the "Distinguished
Academic Service Award" and
Dr.
Anthony Shay was the
recipient of the "Distinguished
Scholar for Outstanding Contribution to Advancement of Persian Folk Dance"
Award. During the ceremony, students and their
families had the opportunity to meet scientists, scholars and professors of
Iranian heritage who are on the faculty or conduct research at various
universities in California and elsewhere and who have agreed to serve as mentors
to the honored students. All attending graduates received a certificate
and several special sponsored awards will be issued to the graduating students
who have demonstrated an outstanding track records in the pursuit of their
academic goals.
