Biography: Dr. Mohamad Navab

Dr. Mohamad Navab Dr. Mohamad Navab, one of the world’s leading investigators in atherosclerosis, is a Professor at the UCLA Division of Cardiology. Over the past twenty years he has received several research awards and grants including a prestigious NIH Post Doctoral Training Grant. He has authored and coauthored over one hundred research articles in the field of Cardiology in the most prestigious scientific journals. He is a Grant Reviewer for NIH Pathology and the American Heart Association.

Dr. Navab began his career as a biochemist at Columbia University Cardiology Division before moving to UCLA Cardiology. He serves as a manuscript reviewer for seven peer-reviewed medical journals, and is on the editorial board of the Journals of Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis and Vascular Biology. He holds five patents and is a frequent lecturer and guest speaker. The important novel cardiovascular drug that he has developed together with two of his colleagues is successfully being studied in clinical trials.

Dr. Navab has additionally taken an active role in community and professional organizations. He is a board member of the Persian Gulf Task Force, NIAC and former President of the Association of Professors and Scholars of Iranian Heritage.

Dr. Navab was born in Shiraz, Iran and immigrated to the U.S. in 1970. He holds a M.Sc. and Ph.D. from Columbia University.
