The distinguished guest of this program is Dr. Shahriar Shahriari, the William Polk Russell Professor of Mathematics at Pomona College in Claremont, California.
Dr. Shahriari's research is in pure mathematics and in the area of Combinatorics. He is the author of over 25 research papers, two edited volumes, and a book. He is on the editorial boards of the international mathematics journal "Order" and the Mathematical Association of America's Textbook Series. Shahriari's book entitled "Approximately Calculus" was published by the American Mathematical Society in 2006 and was chosen a Choice Outstanding Academic Title for 2007 by the American Library Association. His article "Variations on an Irrational Theme-Geometry, Dynamics, Algebra" (Joint with Dan Kalman and Robert Mena) was the winner of the Mathematical Association of America's Carl B. Allendoerfer Award.
